UNIX was on PDP/11s before VAX port
first widely distributed UNIX for VAX was 3BSD
American Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration (DARPA) wanted to update their network, ARPANET
new protocols were called Internet Protocols’(IP)
DARPA gave the contract to BBN and UCB
first operating system to support IP was 4.2BSD (1983)
